Chinese Legend 

According to a Chinese legend, when the Good Genius saw his farmers in pain because of famine, he was moved to pity and decided to sacrifice all his teeth, scattering them in a marsh.

Water turned the teeth into seeds that sprung up in thousands plants of rice.

Since then rice means abundance and his throwing over the newlyweds is a symbol of love and prosperity.
